The world we live in today is big and growing by the minute. Anything can happen to anybody anywhere, which leaves a lot of us without a sense of security. Parents in this age have decided to combat this lack of security by buying their kids cellular phones so that they can be in touch throughout the day or in the event of an emergency. However, in most cases, these cellular phones are not be used as they were intended to be and kids or making other more shoking uses of them.

The big problem with giving a child a cellular phone is that they are used as more than just phones these days. They have many functions, which include text messaging, pictures, and even internet access. With all of those features, its no longer a matter of simply listening in to hear what your child is discussing in their room; you now have no way of knowing what your child could be doing. They could be texting, or making posts on the internet about anything!

In some cases, children have been known to take explicit photos of themselves and send them around to friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, or even post them on the internet. This type of phone activity is commonly referred to as "sexting" which simply signifies "sex texting". What you should be concerned about is not only the personal effect this will have on your child, but the legal implications as well. Your child could be charged with child pornography offenses, could go to jail, and could have to register as a sex offender. This simple little act could effect them for the rest of their lives.

If your children are begging you for a cellular phone, then keep in mind all of the traffic accidents related to cellular phones, mainly surrounding text messages and the sending of them while in heavy traffic. They may give you great reasons for why they want a cell phone, and all of these might sound excellent, but you need to consider the ulterior motives your children may have.

If your child continues to insist that you get them a phone, then it may be time for he or she to get a job of their own and pay for it. Cellular phones are adult necessities, not child necessities, and if your child wants a cellular phone, then he or she must be ready to be an adult and adult things like get a job. They should go out into the world like professionals, do a job hunt, fill out applications, and get business card, if they really want to be adults. You might even consider charging them rent!

Some parents, after reading this, will still desire to get their child a cellular phone for security reasons. If that is the case, make sure that you get your child a phone with limited additional features. Make sure that your child's cellular phone comes with parental controls so that you can keep tabs on what they are doing. Cameras and messaging abilities do not come with every phone and can be taken off of a phone plan. Keep this in mind when getting your child a phone for security.

No matter how hard it may be, be a good parent and do the right thing for you and your child!
