The Lexmark Optra line of printers performed admirably for small business users at one time. Now they now longer produce these printers, but many online retailers still sell them as refurbished or used machines. Look into the pros and cons of buying refurbished equipment, and if you think that this option might work for you, you could make great savings with the Lexmark S 1650 with compatible Lexmark S 1650 Toner.

The Lexmark company is a well-respected manufacturer of computer peripherals and accessories. In fact, Fortune magazine has listed it as number five in a list of the most admired manufacturers of computer peripherals. The Better Business Bureau also gave this company an A+ rating for their honesty and customer service.

This printer is a black and white laser printer with a 16 page per minute capability, using Lexmark S 1650 Toner Cartridge. That might not seem too large for some operations, but it will probably suit the low-volume requirements of many small businesses. If your business depends on high-volume printing to meet the expectations of clients, however, you might want to see if there are any faster printers in your price range.

Unlike its speed, it has a remarkable duty cycle. This Lexmark's duty cycle is rated at sixty-five thousand pages per month, which is sizable compared to the needs of most small offices. It is also upgradeable to a three thousand-plus tray (although it comes with a three hundred page tray standard).

The printing quality of this Optra S series is pretty remarkable. Reviewers have reported that for making business graphics for presentations, it had printed cleanly without jagged lines. Its resolution goes up to 1200 DPI (dots per inch), which is great for most documents. In fact, you will likely be using a smaller setting most of the time anyway. It's also been reported to not jam frequently at all.

This printer can be found at some online retailers for fewer than three hundred dollars. In its day the printer went on sale for much more, but it is now an older model and is usually only available as a refurbished or used printer. This might be a great price for you if you don't mind buying refurbished and you want a near professional-level laser printer designed for small business needs.

The Lexmark S 1650 toner is still sold at standard prices, however, which is usually still pretty steep. In fact, the toner cost is comparable to the cost of the printer itself (in refurbished form). There are two basic models of toner cartridges: the standard and high-capacity versions. The high capacity version will print more than twice as many pages for much less than twice as much as the standard toner--the high capacity cartridge may be the best deal if you plan to use your printer frequently.
